It has been just over 100 days since our President & CEO, David Michael Jerome, joined the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. We want to take a moment to highlight some of the things we have been working on, including exciting initiatives we have launched and will continue to develop for our members, sponsors, and the Hollywood business community.

ABOUT
As we emerge from the throes of COVID, we thought it vital that we come together to answer one question: How are we helping businesses rebuild and reimagine?
The annual 2022 Economic Development Summit anchors the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s (HCC) philosophy of stakeholder collaborative impact, providing an exceptional shared environment to connect, share insights, gain fresh perspectives, and build problem-solving action plans. Against a backdrop of profound political friction, the Chamber seeks to make the conference the starting point for a new era of business and community collaboration and responsibility.
The summit will bring together hundreds of leaders and experts from around Hollywood. Participants will include the chief executives and chairs of our partner and member companies, political leaders and heads of nonprofit organizations, academic experts, and local key figures from our rich world of business, art, culture, and science. All participants are committed to the shared objective of improving the Hollywood business ecosystem for companies interested in moving to Hollywood and those currently here and seeking to grow.
2022 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT VISIONARY AWARD
We are proud to honor Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO, and Chief Content Officer at Netflix, with the 2022 Economic Development Visionary award for his contribution to the entertainment industry. It is an undeniable fact that Sarandos and the work that he and those at Netflix have done over the last two decades has revolutionized content creation as well as upended content consumption on a global scale. The creative and technological innovations implemented by Sarandos and the Netflix team represent the very essence of our mission at the Hollywood Chamber.
KEYNOTE TED SARANDOS | CO-CEO AND CHIEF CONTENT OFFICER AT NETFLIX
Ted Sarandos is Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer at Netflix, overseeing the teams responsible for the acquisition and creation of all Netflix content, including original series from around the world such as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Squid Game (Korea), La Casa De Papel (Spain), Sacred Games (India) and The Witcher (Poland), and films including Don’t Look Up, The Adam Project, Red Notice, The Power of the Dog, ROMA (Mexico), and The Hand of God (Italy). Ted has been responsible for all content operations since 2000 and led the company’s transition into original content production that began in 2013 with the launch of the series House of Cards, Arrested Development, and Orange Is the New Black, among numerous others.
MITCH O-FARRELL | COUNCILMEMBER • 13TH DISTRICT LOS ANGELES

A letter from President & CEO Adam Burke of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board
Dear Los Angeles Tourism Board Members:
As you’re likely aware, City Council is currently being asked to consider implementing a new ordinance that would require hotels to utilize any vacant guest rooms on a nightly basis for members of the homeless community. To be clear, we have great empathy for the plight of unhoused Angelenos and recognize that the right long-term solutions must be developed and implemented with a sense of urgency.
We do not, however, believe that the proposed “Los Angeles Responsible Hotel Ordinance” (also referred to as the “Hotel Land Use and Replacement Housing Requirements Ordinance”) is an appropriate answer.
Instead, by co-locating homeless individuals alongside regular hotel guests, this proposed legislation would have serious public health and safety implications for visitors and hotel team members alike. It would create a significant deterrent to travelers choosing hotels in the City of Los Angeles.
Our community cannot afford this since the sustained recovery in our visitor industry is critical to hundreds of local businesses and the 500,000+ Angelenos whose livelihoods depend on tourism.
On behalf of our 1,000+ Member organizations, we are actively working with the Hotel Association of Los Angeles to support their outreach efforts to City Council as they contemplate the proposed Ordinance.
Should you share the same concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your local Council office so that they have the opportunity to hear from a broad range of constituents before voting on the proposed Ordinance next week.
My best,
ADAM BURKE
President & CEO

HCC’S APPROACH TO PUBLIC SAFETY & HOMELESSNESS
THE HOLLYWOOD CHAMBER’S APPROACH TO PUBLIC SAFETY & HOMELESSNESS
Given the critical importance of this issue, the Chamber has taken an integrated approach to address public safety and homelessness. We work across multiple HCC initiatives and with key external partners to tackle these issues. We think this multi-pronged approach can have a far more significant impact than any single initiative or entity. To that end, this is our list of all that we do to manage these concerns and how you can get involved.
THE HOLLYWOOD POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (PAC)
The Hollywood Chamber’s PAC works directly with elected officials like Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell to support efforts that make Hollywood cleaner and safer. The Hollywood PAC works with local, state, and federal officials on policies that help businesses grow. The PAC makes sure that we support the officials that support businesses. This election cycle is critical to the issue of public safety and homelessness, and we need to vote accordingly.
EAST HOLLYWOOD BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (EHBID)
The Hollywood Chamber devotes time, resources, and funding to the EHBID, an organization dedicated to improving Hollywood, which includes litter pick-up, sidewalk and bus stop power washing, street cleaning, and graffiti removal. Additionally, the EHBID works with partners to plant trees, improve traffic and pedestrian flow, and paint areas in Hollywood that are over and above the essential services provided by the local government.
THE HOLLYWOOD PARTNERSHIP
The Chamber continuously supports organizations like The Hollywood Partnership, whose sole mission is to provide resources for city cleanliness, safety, beautification, and economic viability. The Hollywood Partnership augments what the city and police do to protect our streets, but they are not a substitute for LA City’s fundamental law and order provision.
HOLLYWOOD 4WRD
The Chamber financially supports Hollywood 4WRD, a non-profit organization whose mission is to drive and create systemic change on homelessness in Hollywood. They also have an innovative approach that leverages advocacy, education, and service coordination.
HOLLYWOOD RIGHT NOW | NEW HCC WEBSITE DEVOTED TO HOMELESSNESS & PUBLIC SAFETY
In partnership with Kilroy, a business leader in our community, the Hollywood Chamber launched the Hollywood Right Now website. This site focuses only on providing the most current information on those community issues impacting business in Hollywood, such as public safety, homelessness, and the Hollywood Community Plan. More importantly, it offers straightforward ways individuals and organizations can take action.
THE HOLLYWOOD HISTORIC TRUST
The Hollywood Historic Trust maintains and preserves the Walk of Fame as a Hollywood Chamber subsidiary. Funds generated from the Walk of Fame repair and upkeep the stars on the iconic boulevard.
HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME
Held in the public trust, the Hollywood Chamber is a mission-led organization that promotes business. The Chamber manages the Walk of Fame because it is hugely beneficial for our business members, drives tourism to Hollywood, and is a living monument to entertainment with a global audience. Like our member businesses, the success of the Walk of Fame depends on Hollywood’s cleanliness and safety.
Although we think you will see this as a comprehensive list of the various initiatives the Chamber is leading and supporting to help keep Hollywood safe, we want to hear from you. Let us know how we can continue addressing and tackling these issues better.
The Hollywood Sign Illuminated
Last weekend the Hollywood Sign was illuminated with an impressive projection of images celebrating the contributions of Black culture to Hollywood. This projection capture was brought to life by a team from PaintScaping and coordinated in partnership with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Sign Trust.
A message from our Chairman Lupita Sanchez Cornejo
Dear Chamber Members:
It’s been an incredible month with many successes and new Chamber initiatives that we are excited to implement.
In June, we announced our 2023 Walk of Fame honorees in the following categories: Motion Picture, Television, Live Theatre/Performance, and Recording. Twenty-four honorees were selected from hundreds of nominations and ratified by the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors. Radio personality and Walk of Famer Ellen K. is the Chair of the Walk of Fame Selection Panel and announced the 2023 honorees live at walkoffame.com on Friday, June 17, 2022.
The Walk of Fame Selection Panel is made up of Walk of Famers who hand-pick a group of honorees each year representing various genres within the entertainment industry. The Selection Panel thoughtfully selected these incredible honorees, and we look forward to celebrating them as they become part of Hollywood’s history.
HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME | CLASS OF 2023

COACHING PROGRAM
I am excited to announce a new initiative designed to coach business leaders in our community. This coaching program will be structured to build authentic business relationships with leaders committed to helping business professionals accelerate their careers and amplify the impact of their work.
This program will be designed specifically for small business owners and entrepreneurs and will bring together experts, tastemakers, and business leaders to provide knowledge and resources that foster growth and innovation.
The coaching program for small business owners and entrepreneurs is an initiative I am passionate about and thrilled to implement into our unique membership offering. More information to follow, so stay tuned.

A message from our President & CEO, David Michael Jerome
Happy fourth of July! We are thankful for this great nation, all the sacrifices that have made it great, and those who have continued to keep it great.
The recent primary election results are an important signal that we cannot just hope things will work out. Although we have a shared sense that business in Hollywood is improving, these gains can be reversed at the ballot box. Important issues to business success, like crime reduction, mental health, and economic development, are in the balance. Elections matter more now than ever, so get involved and encourage others to do so.
The Chamber and its Political Action Committee (PAC) are fully engaged in promoting the law-and-order agenda. We just launched an essential new website with Kilroy, dedicated to law-and-order issues in the community (Hollywood Right Now). We also collaborate with the Police, the Hollywood Business Improvement District, and groups like Hollywood Forward. Additionally, we work with Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell to support his initiatives related to crime and the rule of law. Check out our endorsed candidates (link) and vote – our continued growth depends on it.
Beyond our advocacy efforts, I am pleased to report that the team is making a difference in our business community. Working with BET, the sign was illuminated for the first time in over 20 years to overwhelming acclaim. We could not have done this without the outstanding support of board member Jerry Neuman, the Licensing Committee, and the Sign Trust. We continue to deliver on the Walk of Fame and just announced our fabulous incoming class of 2023. Moreover, we are adding just the right level of process and targets to ensure we can sustainably manage return on membership. We continue to grow to meet the business demands of our expanding membership and the Hollywood community. We have mapped our key processes and committees and now have scorecards to track our progress. As a result, we are reinforcing our culture of proactivity, achievement, and working together for you, our members.
Even in advance of the current inflationary challenges, the Chamber sought to assist our local businesses across various business issues. However, inflation has now led to adding costs to payrolls and supply chains. As of publication, consumer prices were growing the fastest in forty years. The Consumer Price Index was at 8.6% above its May 2021 level. To assist with this challenging business environment, we are redoubling our business development efforts, especially for small businesses. In July, we are launching a new business coaching effort. We do this with the sponsorship of our chairman, whose leadership in this area has been critical to starting this important initiative. The Chamber receives a vast number of business inquiries every day, and by tracking these requests, we can shape our business development efforts to meet the needs of Hollywood’s businesses. We will communicate more on this after the July 4th Holiday.
Best,
David
