Hollywood Chamber Successfully Champions a Carve Out for Walk Of Fame from City’s Vending Ordinance

HOLLYWOOD, CA 11/28/2018 – Today, the Los Angeles City Council adopted a formal permit process to legalize sidewalk vending throughout the City.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has been actively working with our City officials for the past five years to ensure that adequate protections for the Hollywood Walk of Fame were included in the sidewalk vending ordinance.

“We are elated that in the final ordinance adopted today, Council has included a no vending zone which will prohibit vending within 500 feet of the Walk of Fame,” stated Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Hollywood Boulevard is the most famous street in the world and is home to some of LA’s most crowded sidewalks. With tens-of-thousands of visitors each day, Hollywood is a unique area of the City with very specific public safety concerns surrounding the use of its sidewalks and protection of the Walk of Fame.  In addition to being the top tourist attraction in the City of Los Angeles, the Walk of Fame is also a designated California Cultural and Historic landmark. While the Walk of Fame may serve some similar functions as other sidewalks, it is a unique entity unlike any other sidewalk in the country.

The Chamber would especially like to thank Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell (CD13) for continuing to be a champion for preservation and protection of our historic Walk of Fame. We look forward to working with the City Council moving forward to see that robust funding for enforcement is also provided to help ensure a successful Citywide vending program that benefits all Angelinos.
