Missions & Goals
The Mission of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is
to promote and enhance the business, cultural and
civic well-being of Hollywood.
To accomplish this mission the Chamber will act at
the local, state, and federal levels of government
to develop and support specific proposals for
action, and oppose legislative and regulatory
efforts that do not support these principles.
To effectively advocate on issues of interest to
the business community, the Chamber has created
guiding principles that provide a framework for
defining the Chamber’s position on public policy
issues.
The Hollywood Chamber: Leading Legislative
Advocate
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is one of the
leading business organizations in Los Angeles County
and is the premiere business organization for the
Hollywood Community, representing more than 1,000
businesses.
As the most important business organization in
the Hollywood community, it is the Chamber’s role to
create and develop policies that will provide for
effective pro-business legislative and local policy
representation to our membership. The Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Action Committee
will utilize the following principles to develop
policy recommendations to the Board of Directors and
to articulate positions on behalf of Chamber
membership when meeting with elected officials:
- Stimulate economic development by
prioritizing business retention and growth in
the region.
- Recognize and promote Entertainment,
Tourism, and Healthcare industries as regionally
based core industries.
- Acknowledge Hollywood’s regional and
national interdependence in the global economy
and the importance of addressing those regional
and national economic policies and issues
impacting the Hollywood business community.
- Demand for accountability in all forms of
government operations and where applicable seek
periodic measurement of programs.
- Seek efficiency in government by allowing
for flexibility in program management by
granting authority to managers, but make them
accountable for departments or agencies’
productivity by creating incentive-based
benefits and by allowing for executive heads to
remove managerial subordinates when appropriate.
- Ensure all government agencies maintain
policies that promote an efficient and equitable
market economy. Government programs and
regulations should be developed to correct
market inefficiencies and not to further
complicate existing market inadequacies.
- Support an educational system that prepares
students to meet market demands.
- Promote quality of life that ensures the
Hollywood community will remain an attractive
place to live, work, and do business.
- Develop a shared regional vision that
includes the strong participation of the private
sector to address problems.
- Encourage the cooperation among government
agencies and reduce the proliferation of
additional regulatory agencies.
- View the private sector as a partner in
serving the needs of the public.
- Ensure regulations on business are kept to a
minimum and support policies that do not put
area businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
- Encourage federal, state, and local levels
of government to recognize and address the harsh
economic realities in the Hollywood community
such as high unemployment and poverty by
developing targeted economic development
approaches like enterprise zones and empowerment
zones encompassing the Hollywood community.
- Support tax policies that ensure regional
competitiveness for all industries.
- Advance economic development in the region
by promoting the creation and growth of Business
Improvement Districts.
- Promote infrastructure necessary to support
commerce and business growth such as sound
regionally-based transportation policies.
